World Energy Council calls for ‘effective’ nuclear governance
It is vital to have an “effective global governance” of the nuclear power industry to restore the public’s trust in the sector.
That’s the view of the World Energy Council, commenting ahead of the second anniversary of the tragic Fukushima accident in Japan.
The incident in March 2011 saw a 15 metre tsunami disable the power supply and cooling of three nuclear reactors and releases of radioactive materials following a major earthquake.
Dr Christoph Frei, Secretary General of the World Energy Council said the world should learn from other industries such as aviation where international certification standards are set and enforced.
