EDF Energy granted environmental permits for nuclear plant

EDF Energy’s new nuclear build plans reached an “important” milestone as it received three main environmental permits for the Hinkley Point C power station in Somerset.

The permits cover the discharge of cooling water and other liquid waste, regulation of emissions and strict limits for the safe and controlled discharge of small amounts of low-level radioactive liquids, gaseous and solid wastes. They have been issued by the Environment Agency to ensure the local people and the environment are protected while the station supplies secure and clean energy.
