UK firm wins £300m waste-to-energy deal in UAE

A UK-based company had bagged a £300 million contract to build an energy-from-waste facility in the UAE.

The deal is expected to help Chinook Sciences create around 850 jobs in Britain and benefit its UK supplier base of 440 companies, which provide more than 92% of its technology.

The contract for the thermal energy-from-waste plant – which is claimed will be the largest of its kind in the world – was awarded by environmental and waste management firm Bee-ah. The two companies were introduced to each other by UK Trade & Investment.

British Trade and Investment Minister Lord Livingstone said: “Our medium-sized businesses have the potential to be economic powerhouses for the UK. Their success is dependent on expanding beyond domestic markets. Chinook Sciences is a great example of a company doing just that.”
